Controlling Our Destiny

Can't-We-Do-Something-About-Our-Road

As the controversy over the proper disposition of State Route 89A in West Sedona slows to a simmer, I was reminded of a fascinating book written by former Sedona resident Janet Sabina, Can't we DO Something? Memoir of Resistance to a Four-Lane Highway. March 9, 1999 ...the [City Council restated its position that the then] proposed four and five lane roadway improvements to state Route 179 are inconsistent with the goals of the Sedona Community Plan. see full article by Ernie Strauch Many people … [Read more...]

Invisible 89A Issues

One of the instigating factors in the birth of The Sedona Citizen was the difficulty of finding in-depth information all  in one place. But the Arizona Department of Transportation is considering a plan to turn over a 23-mile stretch of Grand … [Read more...]

(Of course, your comments are always welcome - even yours Ms. Graham.) Colquitt's speech What Was Not Said Our goal has always been clear: a public vote to overturn the decision of the Sedona City Council to take ownership of highway 89A. We don't want everyone to vote Silly. Just those … [Read more...]

ADOT Is Fed Up

ADOT's letter to Sedona regarding the route transfer

The text of ADOT's letter to the City is presented to improve readability. The gist of the letter is: if the Referendum proceeds, what's to say there won't be more referenda in the future, blocking or reversing later Council decisions, leaving ADOT in limbo, but will full liability? ADOT states it has legal means to transfer the road to the city outside of the Route Transfer Agreement. April 28, 2011 Mr. Tim Ernster City Manager City of Sedona 102 Roadrunner Drive Sedona, AZ 86336 Dear … [Read more...]
